There used to be two intercalary months in a Kshayamasa year

Evidently, an ancient epoch of Vikrama era was in vogue during the time of Kalidasa. The year was earmarked as Kshayamasa If Solar month was smaller than lunar month or two samkrantis occurred in one lunar month. A cycle of 141 years was followed for Kshaya Masa in ancient times.
